Community Involvement

Since 1869, this office has enjoyed a long history of community service in Nashville. Today, The Pruett Financial Group continues that proud tradition. Our financial representatives and staff members live and work in this community and understand the importance of active community involvement. Many provide volunteer leadership for fundraisers and serve on boards and committees of numerous worthwhile organizations.

Northwestern Mutual Foundation Supports Long-Term Flood Recovery with $50,000 Challenge Grant to The Salvation Army

Northwestern Mutual Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwestern Mutual, awarded a $50,000 challenge grant to The Salvation Army Nashville Area Command to support long-term flood recovery services for families whose homes and lives were destroyed by the May 2010 floods. The Foundation grant will match $1 for every $1 donated, with a total match up to $25,000.

The Pruett Financial Group has a long history of involvement with the Salvation Army, and we supported the Foundation’s flood recovery efforts through a special volunteer outreach to adopt a family in flood recovery through Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program.

Northwestern Mutual has an unparalleled record of volunteer and financial leadership with United Way of Nashville since its founding in 1922, when Northwestern Mutual’s then-managing partner chaired the committee that created the Community Chest, the precursor to United Way. Since that time, numerous volunteer leaders from Northwestern Mutual have led community wide campaigns, chaired and served on the board, and founded and chaired leadership giving societies. In fact, retired managing partner Bill Cochran recently marked a half-century of involvement with United Way. Through his steadfast leadership and innovation, he raised literally millions of dollars to support the needs of the Greater Nashville community. Today, the tradition of leadership continues. Marcy Pruett serves on the board and Roy Jordan and Chad Greer chair the Next Generation Tocqueville Society. Others serve in critical campaign and committee positions. And everyone gets involved in ongoing volunteer opportunities through Pruett Financial’s award-winning “Building Community” family volunteer program. All serve in their own way, helping to meet our community’s most critical health and human service needs.

The Grammy Award-winning Nashville Symphony serves as a national and international ambassador for the citizens of Tennessee as one of the most active recording orchestras in the country. Housed in the new, world-class Schermerhorn Symphony Center, this new landmark has become a cultural center in downtown Nashville. The support of The Pruett Financial Group has been instrumental in helping the Nashville Symphony fulfill its mission of achieving excellence in musical performance and educational programs while engaging the community, enriching audiences and shaping cultural life.

Building Community – A Family Volunteer Program

The Building Community Program at Pruett Financial Group is a grass-roots effort that engages the entire family in volunteer opportunities. Created by Marcy Pruett, volunteers participate in a year-round program of activities that support United Way agency partners and programs. Volunteers hosted a Valentine’s party for 75 children at St. Luke’s Family Resource Center; a Mother’s Day cookout for 25 family members at Safe Haven Family Shelter; and a back-to-school backpack drive for 50 students at Bethlehem Family Resource Center. And the list continues.

In February, 2008, the Building Community Program was honored with the prestigious Community Impact Award from United Way of Metropolitan Nashville as an innovative family volunteer initiative. And the following year, it won a national Community Impact Award from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, which was accompanied by a $50,000 grant to United Way.

Financial Literacy Community Education for Kids

In 2004, The Pruett Financial Group introduced a new financial literacy community education program, called Making Perfect Cents. Financial Representatives and staff members from our office volunteer their time to make presentations to young children, using a special, 4-slotted piggy bank, called Penny the Pig. The bank helps teach young children about the four ways they can use money – to Spend, Save, Donate and Invest.
